In a city filled with new restaurants and bold openings, one Scottsdale spot is serving something more personal.
The Italiano, the latest concept from local chef and restaurateur Joey Maggiore, is more than just a stylish new addition to the dining scene; it’s a heartfelt homage to family. At its core, the restaurant is a tribute to Joey’s father, the late Tomaso Maggiore, a name synonymous with Italian fine dining in Arizona for more than 40 years.
Tomaso’s on Camelback was more than a restaurant. It was a fixture in the community, a gathering place, and, for Joey, a foundation. At The Italiano, that legacy lives on—most visibly in the private dining room, where a striking art installation recreates the look and spirit of Tomaso’s. Black-and-white photographs, curated memorabilia, and hand-painted elements evoke not just a restaurant, but a life’s work and a family tradition.
It’s a space that invites guests into the story, whether they grew up dining at Tomaso’s or are discovering its influence for the first time.
The menu, too, is layered with memory. Many of the dishes are inspired by Tomaso’s original recipes, reimagined with modern techniques and premium ingredients. Diners might start with a Sicilian arancini or share house-made pastas that echo Sunday family dinners.
But while tradition is at its heart, The Italiano doesn’t live in the past. The atmosphere is vibrant and contemporary, with plush booths, polished wood finishes, and an open kitchen that brings energy to the dining experience.
This restaurant represented something different for Chef Joey Maggiore, known for other Valley concepts like The Sicilian Butcher and Hash Kitchen. It’s personal.
At The Italiano, every plate tells a story—and every guest is invited to be part of it.
